Hands-on: World’s first rotating camera smartphone

A smartphone that seems to have been developed for the perfect selfie, Oppo’s N1 smartphone might look like just another phone, but it has a camera trick up its sleeve. The phone’s camera can actually rotate around – making selfies easier to take.

Oppo, the maker of the phone, claims innovation in smartphones has stopped. While it agrees that smartphones have become slightly faster, with slightly larger screens, and get slight design changes, it hasn’t seen innovation.

They claim to have the solution. “With the N1, we threw away all preconceptions. We boldly returned to the core reason why technology should exist. To improve life, to innovate, and to change things for the better.”

According to the company, the N1 is the world’s first rotating camera smartphone. “OPPO was the first in the world to release a 13-megapixel camera smartphone. With the N1, we are once again realizing new possibilities in smartphone photography. Introducing the world’s first smartphone with a rotating camera.” The camera features a 206° rotation, and will lock securely in place, no matter at what angle.

But that is not all that the phone can do. It has a touch panel at the back that allows for easier scrolling. “A 12 cm2 rear touch panel makes one handed use for the large OPPO N1 screen comfortable and easy. With O-Touch you can scroll, tap, or snap photos – all without your fingers blocking the display.”

The device features a 5.9-inch Full HD screen, a quad-core, 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2 GB of RAM, with either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage, and a huge 3610 mAh battery.
