Download Universal Office Apps For Windows 10 Now
About two weeks ago, on January 21st to be precise, Microsoft first talked about Universal Office apps for Windows 10. Today, Microsoft has released the Preview of Universal Office apps for Windows 10 and are available to download now.
Universal Office apps are nothing but touch-optimized versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook designed especially for devices equipped with touch screens running Windows 10. But for now, only Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps are available to download for PCs running the recently released Windows 10 Technical Preview.
Office for Windows 10
Office for Windows 10 (Office Universal apps) will come pre-installed with phones and small tablets for free. Users of other devices will be able to download these apps from the Windows Store.
Office for Windows 10 is completely different from Office desktop that we all are familiar with and doesn’t offer all the features available in the desktop version of Office (Microsoft Office 2010, Office 2013, & upcoming Office 2016). In other words, it’s a cut-down version of Office for desktop but optimized for touch and mobile. That said, Office for Windows 10 works great on traditional desktops and laptops as well.
Before you start searching for download links, remember that Office for Windows 10 can’t be installed on previous versions of Windows, which means you’ll need Windows 10 Technical Preview or later build of Windows 10. To download Office apps for Windows 10, you can simply search for Word, Excel and PowerPoint in the new Windows 10 Store Beta.
Microsoft is also working on the next major version of Office for desktop (Office 2016) and the preview build might be made available for download in coming weeks. In fact, early builds of Office 2016 have been leaked to the web but we advise you wait for the official preview build.
